2011-12 Physical Education Program:
Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Healthy Souls
Primary Course Description:
This class is designed to give students the opportunity to learn through a comprehensive sequentially planned Physical Education program in accordance with the California Physical Education Standards.
Students will learn fundamental locomotor skills (running, hopping, skipping, jumping, leading, sliding, galloping), non-locomotor skills (bending, twisting, turning, rocking, swaying, balancing, stretching, pushing, and pulling), and manipulative (rolling, throwing. catching, bouncing, kicking parachutes) skills. Also a basic understanding of fitness concepts and fitness development exercises, as well as demonstrate the qualities of movement (space, time, force, flow, levels, directions, and pathways). Students will learn playground rules and safety for self and others. Learn basic concepts of each sport as well as it's skills, rules, safety tips, and sport fundamentals.
Intermediate Course Description:
This class is designed to give students the opportunity to learn through a comprehensive sequentially planned Physical Education program in accordance with the California Physical Education Standards.
The emphasis is on how students react and respond to others and perform well-defined combinations of movements. Students will learn to develop patterns and combinations of movements using locomotor and non-locomotor skills. Students will continue to learn to manipulate objects with a partner (throwing, catching, striking, and kicking). Students will learn to analyze their performance in order to learn or improve a movement skill. Students will continue to learn fitness concepts, participate in a variety of fitness development exercises, assess their personal fitness, compare their scores to a health related standard, and set goals for improvement. Students will learn playground rules related to the use of equipment, safety and games Units of instruction include social skills, fitness, movement education, and manipulatives, along with fitness pre- and post-testing; jump rope; throwing, rolling, and catching; and other basic skills,

Junior High Course Description:
This class is designed to give students the opportunity to learn through a comprehensive sequentially planned Physical Education program in accordance with the California Physical Education Standards.
The focus of this course is the development of movement skill combinations and movement skill knowledge (including defensive and offensive strategies); team physical activities, and square dance; the assessment and maintenance of physical fitness to improve health and performance, and the requisite knowledge of physical fitness concepts, principles and strategies to improve health and performance; and the application of psychological and sociological concepts, including self-responsibility, positive social interaction, and group dynamics, in the learning and performance of
physical activity, Students will have one month to learn the developmental skills for different types of sports:
- Volleyball, Dodge ball or Team Hand ball, Field Hockey, Pre- PFE, FINAL EXAM
- Soccer, Basketball, Baseball or Softball, Badminton or Kickball, PFE, FINAL EXAM
